Case studies ♥ 1:52 pm

Today during science, we were discussing and analysing 3 different case studies. The first was about lime juice, and how the "narrator"'s lime juice decreased in volume after an afternoon in the hot sun. I think that group (Seow Hwee, Dorcas and Melissa) had a really nice and decorative powerpoint presentation and their points were clear and detailed. They had a lot of information and I think that it was overall a good attempt. =)

The 2nd group was Lishan's, Radiant's and Lisa's group was quite entertaining. Their points were really good but they kept laughing. Lolz... But I think that it was really good and their analysis was really good. It was about uncle Tom's milk and about milk's freezing point etc. But, they can improve by changing the big chunks of words that they have on the slides to either point form or paragraphs so that it looks more attractive. Their info was very very much like ours so I believe that their source was the same as ours. Haha... I guess great minds think alike.

The 3rd group was my group. I love it!! Lols... Credits to Stella for creating the slides. =) The font and background was really nice yet simple. Ours was about the peculiar nature of water and how it freezes and expands when frozen. Miss Cynthia also brought up the topic of how some people in seasonal countries salt the roads when winter comes around. This drops the freezing point of the water and hence, the ice wouldn't freeze up so fast.

I think overall, the presentations were well done and you can tell we did a lot of work to make them, especially taking into condition that we only had one weekend to do this up. Actually, less because we had only 2 days before we had to submit our powerpoints.

Water is, in fact, a very unique liquid. Water starts out behaving normally. As its temperature drops, water obediently shrinks together-until it reaches 4 °C. Then, amazingly, water reverses course, its volume slowly increasing as it chills. When water finally freezes at 0 °C, it expands dramatically.

Scientist say waters quirky behavior is caused by the shape of its molecule and how it bonds with one another.

Each water molecule is two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom. Because of how the atoms share electrons, a water molecule is slightly positively charged at the hydrogen atoms, and slightly negatively charged at the oxygen atom. The molecule's charged ends attract the oppositely charged ends of other water molecules.

Hence, we can conclude that due to water's special and unique molecules, they would expand when their temperature is 4 degrees C and below.
